HERO OF SOCIALIST LABOUR

HERO OF SOCIALIST LABOUR, an honorary title in the USSR between 1938– 91, the highest degree of distinction for exceptional achievements in economics and culture development. Established by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the USSR on December 27th, 1938 and further on awarded by the same organization. The Hero was awarded the Order of Lenin (between 1973–88, also at the reassignment of the title), the Sickle and Hammer gold medal (since May 1940) and the Diploma of the Presidium of the Supreme Сouncil of the USSR. Twice the Hero was honoured with a bronze bust in his homeland, three times the Hero – in Moscow. The title was awarded to more than 20.4 thous. people, incl. more than 210 people in the BASSR and 20 RB natives living outside RB.
