PEA, a plant genus of the Fabaceae family. There are 6—7 species known. In Bashkortostan field P. is being cultivated, which has edible (shell and vegetable) and fodder varieties. Annual herbaceous plant. Blooms in June. Fruit — bean with 3—10 seeds, ripens at the end of July – beginning of August. Weight of 1000 seeds — 100—400 g. The plant is cold resistant and sun loving. The vegetation period is 70— 140 days. Main predecessors – tilled crops (corn for silage, sugar beet) winter grain crops, spring wheat. The culture of early sowing. In the Republic, the sowing area of field P. was 260—280 thous. ha in 1970—80s. The highest yield was 32.4 Cwt/ha (Baymakskoe Experimental Production Farm, 1992). Field P. is being grown in all agricultural zones. The Chismisnky 80, Chisminsky 95 valuable grain varieties, as well as Melkosemyanny 2 and other hay fodder varieties bred by the selection breeders of the Republic are allowed for use in the RB.
