MAGAZINES, printed and electronic periodicals, a type of mass media.

The first M. on the territory of Bashkortostan were the following: Vestnik Ufimskogo Zemstva, Orenburgskiye Epar­ khialniye Vedomosti and Ufimskiye Epar­ khialniye Vedomosti. At the beginning of the 20th century, the following M. began to be published in the Turkic language of the Ural Volga region: Religion and Life, Grasshopper, Akmulla, Shuro, etc. The development of ped. thought and scientific achievements were reflected in the following M.: Vestnik Orenburgskogo Uchebnogo Okruga, Vestnik Semyi i Shkoly and Pedagogichesky Zhurnal. The following specialized M. appeared: Liga, Pchela, etc. This period M. contained articles on the topics of local history, ethnography, folklore, etc. After the Revolution of 1917, all anti Bolshevik publications were closed. Between the 1920–30s, there were the following M. in the Bashkir language: Aymak, Allakhyz, Babich, Yany Yul, etc; in the Russian Agitator­Propagandist, Bashkiriya, Vlast Sovetov, etc. The Yanalif (New Alphabet; ref. Alphabet) lit. M. and others published in the Bashkir language had a great impact on the establishment of the Bashkir literary language. During the Great Patriotic War, the number of publications was reduced. Since 1943, the Bloknot Agitatora M. started to be published. In the first postwar decade, the pre war M. started to be published again. Between the 1950–80s, the following new M. began to be published: Bashkortostan Auyl Khuzhalygy, Bashkortostan Kyzy, Russky Yazyk v Bashkirskoy Shkole, etc. Transformations in the social and political life of the country between the 1980–90s contributed to the growth in the number of M. The following

M. begin to be published: Akbuza, Belskiye Prostory, Vatandash, Vedomosti of the State Assembly Kurultay, President and Go­ vernment of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Vily, Rampa, Selskiye Uzory, Tulpar, Shonkar, etc. In 2014, these M. were merged into the Respublika Bashkortostan publishing house.
