LEGISLATIVE AUTHORITY
LEGISLATIVE AUTHORITY, an independent branch of state power, endowed with powers to enact laws, as well as the system of state bodies exercising these powers. In Bashkortostan, the functions of L.a. were performed by: Ufa Gub. Council of Workers, Peasant and Red Army Deputies (1917—22), All Bashkir Kurultays of 1917 (1st — between 20 and 27 July; 2nd — between 25 and 29 August, 3rd — between 8 and 20 December), Bashkir Central Shuro, the Smaller Kurultay (1917—19), Ufa Gub. and All Bashkir Congresses of Soviets (1917—37), and Bashkir Central Executive Committee. Since 1938, the supreme body of L.a. was the Supreme Council and since 1995 — the State Assembly—Kurultay of the Republic of Bashkortostan.
