IBRAGIMOV, Galimdzhan Girfanovich
IBRAGIMOV, Galimdzhan Girfanovich (28.2.1887, Derevnya Sultamratovo of Sterlitamaksky Uyezd of Ufa Gub., now Selo Sultanmuratovo of Aurgazinsky Raion of the RB – 21.1.1938, Kazan), Writer. Hero of Labour (1932). Studied in the madrassa in Orenburg (1898—1905) and in the Galiya madrassa (1906—08). Between 1909—27 (intermittently), worked in Kazan. Between 1915—17, – in Ufa, where he taught in the Galiya madrassa. In 1917, organized the Svoboda newspaper. Between 1918—20, – in Moscow: Member of the Central Muslim Military Collegium. At the same time, Head of the Press Department Editorial Board of the Central Bureau of Communist Organizations of the Peoples of the East under the Central Committee of the RCP(b) and employee at the Krasny Vostok newspaper and Editor at the Chulpan newspaper. Member of the Central Election Commission of the RSFSR and the Central Election Commission of the TASSR (1918). Author of the following novels: Young Hearts (1912), Our Days (1919), Daughter of Steppes (1924), Deep Roots (1928; all — in the Tat. language), etc, as well as works on the Tat. philology, including Grammar of the Tatar Language (1911), Canons of Literature (1916; both — in the Tat. language), etc. In 1937, he was subjected to political purges (died in prison). Rehabilitated in 1955.
