IDRISOVO DRAWINGS, archaeological sites of the Paleolithic period. They are located 1 km SW of Derevnya Idrisovo of Salavatsky Raion on the left bank of the Yuryuzan River. There are 2 drawings. I.d.I, located on a rocky ledge at the entrance to the Idrisovo Cave. Discovered in 1934 by M.I.Kasyanov and studied in 1945 by B.A.Koishevsky, in 1951 by M.A.Bader. They are fixed anthropomorphic images (mostly paired) made in red paint. Pieces of coal and various chipped off remnants were also found. I.d.II, located on a rocky outcrop to the E from the entrance to the cave. Discovered in 1976 by V.T.Petrin, studied in 1988 by V.N.Shirokov, in 2000 by V.G.Kotov. This consists of 14 groups of drawings. They include anthropomorphic, zoomorphic (female, birds), geometrical (zigzags, rhombuses, tamgashaped emblems, etc.) images made with burgundy and red colors. Special attention has to be drawn to the 10th group of drawings with images of a tree, a person under it and various painted spots. Near the drawings there were found human bones, a mortar, flint items, coal, pieces of hematite, remnants of a stone structure (diam. 2 m; leftovers of religious buildings). Presumably, there was a shrine here. These artifacts indicate the existence of a belief in the spirits–masters of the mountains among the population of the South Ural in the era of the Stone Age, and also, of a developed system of rituals associated with hunting.
