OBOLENTSEV, Roman Dmitriyevich (1.11.1906, Selo Alekseevka of Kharkov Gub. – 27.10.1968, Kiev), Petrochemist. D.Sci. (Chemical Sciences) (1951), Full Professor (1953). Merited Master of Sciences of the RSFSR (1964), of the BASSR (1957). Graduated from the Leningrad State University (1936). Between 1951–68 in the Bashkir Branch of the AS USSR (Ufa); since 1961 Dir. of the Institute of Organic Chemistry, simultaneously, between 1956– 63 Chairman of the Presidium. The founder of the chemistry of natural organic‑sulfur compounds discipline; developed the theoretical basis for the processing of sulfur and high‑sulfur oils of the Urals, Volga and Western Siberia deposits. O. for the first time in the country proposed the classification of components of petroleum from the deposits of Urals, Volga, Siberia, North of the USSR and Central Asia. Deputy of the 5th Session of the Supreme Council of the USSR.
