LAKES, natural reservoirs with slow water exchange and coastal zone profile, developed under the impact of wind waves and current. Morphometric characteristics: surface area, volume, depth, length, width, indentation of shoreline, configuration of lake basin, etc. Bashkir Pre‑Urals are represented mostly by karst cave‑in lakes, karst lakes (Asylykul, Kandrykul, etc) and bayou lakes (Archimandritskoye, Beloye, Shamsutdin, etc); by chemical composition water in the L. refers to the sodium and magnesium groups of sulphate class. L. of Bashkir Trans‑Urals are tectonic (Kalkan, Uzunkul, Urgun, etc); the water is of hydrocarbonate class of magnesium, calcium or calcium‑sodium‑magnesium groups, the water of the Muldakkul Lake refers to the chloride class of the sodium group. L. in the Republic are mostly eutrophic, Bannoe Lake is oligotrophic. Kieshki, Sarvinskoe Lake, Shingakkul, etc are natural monuments.
