OKTYABRSKY
OKTYABRSKY, a city in the RB. Located on the Ik River (tributary of the Kama River), 185 km to the W of Ufa. Territory – 98.8 km2. Population – 113.8 thous. people (2018).
The economy is comprised of mechanical engineering and fuel industry. There are: NGDU Tuymazaneft, PAO ANK Bashneft; enterprises: PetroTul, OZNA, Oktyabrsky Oilfield Equipment Plant, NPF Paker, Bashneftegazproject–Stroneg, Evroplast, ZAO OZNA–Measuring Systems, Stroymaterialy, Zhelezobeton, Bashkir Farfor, Oktyabrsky Khlyeb (Bread), Zolotoy Rog Meat Processing Plant, etc. The Kuibyshev Railway (Urussu–Oktyabrsky line), Samara– Ufa–Chelyabinsk and Oktyabrsky–Yermekeyevo highways cross the territory.
In O., there are: Exploration Well Geophysical Survey Institute, a branch of USPTU; colleges: oil, municipal construction, music, multidisciplinary; Economics Tekhnikum; 16 general education schools, 27 pre‑school educational institutions; choreography and painting supplementary schools, 2 children’s schools of arts, Children’s and Youth’s Palace of Arts, 4 youth sports schools, a city hospital, Antituberculosis hospital, Youth’s Palace, 11 libraries, a museum, Sports Palace, a stadium, the Spartak Sports and Recreation Centre; 6 mosques, and 2 churches. The Oktyabrsky Neftyanik and The Rodnoy Kray newspapers are published in Russian; The Tugan Yak newspaper is published in the Tatar language.
Founded in 1937 as Posyolok Sotsgorod due to the development of Tuymazinsky Oil Deposit. Since 1940 Rabochy Posyolok, since 1942 the current name, since 1946 the current status. In 1946, O. incorporated Selos Verkhneye Zaitovo, Moskovka, Mullino, Naryshevo, and Turkmenevo. In O., there are 2 objects of cultural heritage: the Yu.A.Gagarin House of Culture, Science and Technology (1953), and Soldier’s Thoughts Monument (1970).
