UCHALINSKY RAION
UCHALINSKY RAION, located in the N of the Bashkir Trans‑Urals. Established on August 20, 1930. Abolished on February 1, 1963, the territory transferred to Beloretsky Raion. Newly established on January 13, 1965. Territory — 4,553 km2. Adm. centre — Uchaly, which is located 376 km E of Ufa. Population — 70.9 thous. people (2017).
In 2018, the area of agricultural lands amounted to 172 thous. ha (38% of the total area), including arable lands — 56.6, hayfields — 47.5, pastures — 67.7; forest area — 230.0, surface waters — 6.1. Agricultural enterprises [5 agricultural enterprises, 114 peasant (farmer) farms] specialize in the cultivation of grain crops, dairy and meat cattle breeding. Horse breeding and sheep breeding are well‑developed. There are: GUP RB Uchalinsky Forest, GU Uchalinskoye Forestry; such enterprises as Ural Kamni (Stones), Sangalyksky Diorite Quarry (both – in Derevnya Mansurovo); ZAO Bashkir Gold Mining Company in Selo Safarovo, OOO Uchalinsky Kvas, etc. Yuzhno‑Uralskaya Railway [Miass (Chelyabinsk Obl.)–Uchaly–Mezhozyorny (Chelyabinsk Obl.) Section] and the following highways: Beloretsk—Uchaly—Miass and Uchaly–Akhunovo–Verkhneuralsk (Chelyabinsk Obl.) cross the territory. There are: 28 general education and 23 pre‑school institutions, 3 supplementary schools, an orphanage, a psychoneurologic boarding school, the Nadyezhda (Hope) orphanage for children and teenagers (all — in Selo Uchaly), children’s music and painting schools, 7 children’s schools of arts, 4 rural hospitals, 4 medical outpatient clinics, 52 medical and obstetrical centers, Iremel and Yashma hotels, Urgun Tourist Centre; 66 clubs, 35 libraries, the M. Murtazin Museum, a local history museum and the Voznyesyenskaya (Ascension) Сhurch. In the Raion, there are 24 folk and 18 exemplary amateur art groups.
