ELECTRIC-POWER INDUSTRY, industry specializing in the production, transmission and distribution of electric energy; it is the leading component of the energy sector. Brown coal, natural gas, and heavy residue serve as raw materials. A distinctive feature of the energy sector of the RB is the presence of almost all types of electricity generation in the country: state district power plants, TPP (including gas‑piston and mini‑TPP), hydroelectric power stations (including small and micro hydroelectric power stations), wind farms, solar power stations, gas‑turbine power plants (based on aviation turbine for TU‑134 aircraft). In the structure of E.‑P.I. of the RB, there are heat power plants (60.1%), hydropower plants (0.5), electric networks (25.3), heat networks (9.4), boiler houses (4.6), and other power plants (0.1%). The main volume of electric and thermal energy in the RB is produced by OOO Bashkirenergo (88% of total volume). The largest plants: Karmanovskaya State District Power Plant (built in 1968; Yanaulsky Raion of the RB), Pavlovskaya Hydroelectric Power Station (1959; Nurimanovsky Raion), Yumaguzinskaya Hydroelectric Power Station (2004; Kugarchinsky Raion), Salavatskaya (1953) and Novo‑Salavatskaya TPPs (1966; both – in Salavat), 4 Ufa TPPs, Kumertauskaya TPP (1954), Sterlitamakskaya (1957) and Novo‑Sterlitamakskaya (1976) TPPs. In 2001, the first wind power plant in the Urals (Tuimazinsky Raion) was built.
