TABYNSKAYA MOTHER OF GOD ICON

TABYNSKAYA MOTHER OF GOD ICON, miraculous icon depicting the face of the Virgin with the baby Jesus on her left arm. The Icon is outlined in yellow and brown and in the style of Byzantine. It has similarities with the Mother‑of‑God of Kazan. Dimension – 106×74 cm. The Icon was famous for miracles of healing. It was considered to afford protection during the 1848 and 1854 epidemics, the 1861 drought, etc. Until 1660s, the Icon had been located in the Voznesenskaya Pustyn Monastery, while from the middle of the 18th century, in the Ascension Church of Selo Tabynskoye, Sterlitamak Uyezd (now Gafuriysky Raion of the RB), and from 1914, with the Orenburg Cossack troops. During the Civil War the Icon was exported to China. The Icon had both everyday and festive vestments. The Ufa Eparchy has both its old and modern copies. Every year a holiday in honour of the Icon is celebrated on 9th Friday of Easter. The Icon is included in the list of all‑Russia shrines.
