KAGARMAN‑CANTON
“KAGARMAN‑CANTON”, Bashkir ethnic song, khalmak-kuy. First registered by I.V. Saltykov, published in “Bashkort khalk yirdary” collection by K.F. Akhmetov. The song is comical and has a dancing nature. Dedicated to Kagarman Kuvatov, the head of the 9th Bashkir military canton. The most widespread variant of the song makes fun of Kagarman’s rejection to change his military uniform to civilian one after the Canton structure was abolished. He does it because of Shagida, who does not want to marry a civilian. The melody is lightly ornamented, it has a small range of sounds and consists of 2 parts (an uzun-kuy style verse and a little more vivid chorus). There are variants of the song formed as a dialogue between Kagarman and his wife Shagida. The musical adaptation of “K.C.” for a capella choir was made by M.Z. Bashirov.
