LATVIAN HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL CENTER
LATVIAN HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL CENTER, public organization, branch of the House of Peoples’ Friendship. It was created in 2006 in the village Maxim Gorky in Arkhangelsky district of the RB in order to safeguard and develop the native language and literature, folklore, customs and traditions of Latvians. The center holds competitions for the best Latvian farmstead and the best Latvian cheese; a competition of readers in three native languages “Forever together”, etc; annual ethnic and religious holidays Ligo (see Ivan Kupala holiday), Martyni, Christmas, anniversaries of prominent figures of Latvian culture: Vilisa Latsisa, Jan Jaunsudrabins, etc. The center together with the children’s folklore ensembles “Echo” and “Pchelka” participates in various holidays, competitions, and festivals.
