PAASONEN Heikki
PAASONEN Heikki (2.1.1865–24.8.1919), folklorist, ethnologist, linguist. Doctor of Philosophy (1893). Full member of the Finnish Academy of Sciences (1908). His research is devoted to comparative linguistics, dialectology, and folklore of the Finno-Ugric and Turkic peoples. In 1889–1900, he collected field material among the Mari people of the Churayevo village of the Birskiy district of the Ufa guberniya province (now Mishkinskiy district of the RB), which was published in the books “Tscheremissische Texte” (1939), “Ost-tscheremissisches Wörterbuch” (1948). In 1898–1902, he collected information about the tangible and spiritual culture of the Mordva (Moksha and Erzya), Tatar-Mishars, Khanty, etc. Author of the works “On the ancestral home of the Finno-Ugric peoples” (1923), “Mordovian Folk Poetry” (1937–48), “East Mari Dictionary” (1948), etc.
