“PASSED LIFE”, “L i f e”, Bashkir ethnic song, khalmak‑kuy. Firstly registered in 1923 by S.Galimov from A.D. Khusainov in Temyasovo village, Zilairskiy canton, BASSR (Baymakskiy District, RB). The lyrics are published in the book “Bashkir ethnic art” by S. Gabyashi. It is also published with notes in “Songs of my people” collection (1995) by F.A. Nadrshina. The song is lyrical. According to the legend, registered by K.M. Diyarov from G.G. Ushanov, the song is connected with the history of “Bay horse” naigrysh melody. “P. L.” was composed by a dzhigit and his bride. After dzhigit’s tulpar horse died, his father-in-law offered him a horse from his herd. However, he did not choose a worthy tulpar and decided to wait for  it to be born. Returning to their homeland, the  newly married couple noticed a black horsed rider who tried to obstruct their way. They rushed forward as they realized that it was their past life and if it obstructed their way they w ould die. The wife’s horse died, she mounted the tulpar of her husband and the couple continued their journey singing the song that later was called “P. L.”. The melody is based on a major pentatonic. The general descending movement of the chant in the interval of a twelfth makes the song special and expressive.
