KUNAKBAYEV, Sabirzyan Abdullovich [29.12.1901, Derevnya Ulukulevo of Ufimsky Uyezd of the same Gubernia (Karmaskalinsky Raion of the RB) — 3.7.1996, Ufa], Breeder. Merited Acad. of the AS BSSR (1991), Candidate of Agriculture Sciences (1950). Hero of Socialist Labour (1987). Merited Agronomist of the RSFSR (1957) and Merited Master of Sciences of the BASSR (1963). Laureate of the USSR Council of Ministers Award (1982). Awarded with the Order of Lenin (1987), Order of the October Revolution (1981), Order of the Badge of Honour (1966). After graduating from the Moscow Agricultural Academy named after K.A.Timiryazev (1927), untill 1930 he worked at the People’s Commissariat of Agriculture of the BASSR; since 1932 — at the Chishmy Agricultural Experimental Station. Since 1955 at the Bashkir R&D Institute for Agriculture and Plant Breeding (until 1958 as Deputy Dir.). Scientific activities are dedicated to the creation of grain crops varieties. Under the leadership of K., the varieties of winter rye, winter wheat, buckwheat and winter triticale (Bashkirskaya 1) were bred. He is the founder of the scientific field of breeding short‑stemmed varieties of winter rye. The Academy of Sciences of the RB established an award named after him.
