MANATOV, Sharif Akhmetovich (Sharifyan Akhmetovich) [20.10.1893, according to other data, 1892, Derevnya Manatovo of Chelyabinsky Uyezd of Orenburg Gub. (Almenevsky Raion of Kurgan Obl.) – 1936, Derevnya Smorodinovka of Chelyabinsk Obl., buried in Derevnya Kuchukovo of Uchalinsky Raion of the BASSR], Member of the Bashkir National Move­ment, Statesman. Member of the RCP(b) since 1918. Between 1914–17, M. is in emigration to Switzerland. From August, 1917, Chairman of the Bashkir Central Shuro, since December Member of Bashkir Gov­ernment. Between 1918–19, Deputy Chairman of the Commissariat for Muslim Affairs of the Internal Russia under the People’s Commissariat for Nationalities Affairs of the RSFSR. Since 1920, the Representative of the People’s Commissariat for Nationalities Affairs of the RSFSR at the Government of the ASBR. Since 1924, Head of the Academic Centre under the People’s Commissariat of Education of the BASSR; later he worked in higher educational institutions outside the Republic. In 1935, he was expelled from the ACP(b). In 1962, he was rehabilitated.
