“TASHTUGAY”, Bashkir ethnic song, uzun-kuy. It was first registered by S.G. Rybakov in 1894 and published in the “Music and songs of the Ural Muslims and their household description” book. The song is lyrodramatic. There are two variants of “T.” origins: one  of  which  was  registered  in  1939 by M.A. Burangulov in Ilyachevo village, Khaybullinskiy District, BASSR; the other was registered by K.M. Diyarov from A.D. Khusainov, Temyasovo village, Baymakskiy District, BASSR and Mukhutdin the singer from Verkhneye Abdryashevo village, Abzelilovskiy District, BASSR. The former variant is published in the “Melodies of grey Ural” book. The plot is based on a story about beautiful Kunsylu, who was forced to marry the man she did not love and live with him in Tashtygay village (Khaybullinskiy District, RB). She was longing for her beloved Baygubek and home-lands, so she composed the song. When Kunsylu visited her parents, she would secretly meet Baygubek and it led to their death. The sounds from the upper border of the sound range (twelfth) in the first phrase reach ornamented intrasyllabic chants that make the melody special. Musical adaptations of “T.” for flute and piano were made by A.T. Grechanin, for choir, solo and piano – by M.Z. Bashirov, for a cappella choir – by A.S. Klucharyev, for a solo and symphonic orchestra – by S.R. Salmanov, for a solo, choir and symphonic orchestra – by I.V. Saltykov. R.F. Zaripov used the song in his “Bashkir triptych” choral for a solo, mixed choir and organ.
