GIRFANOV, Vakil Kaleyevich
GIRFANOV, Vakil Kaleyevich (25.1.1909, Derevnya Taymeyevo of Zlatoustovsky Uyezd of Ufa Gub. – 10.5.1980, Ufa), Agrobiologist, Statesman. Dr.Sci (Agriculture) (1965), Full Professor (1967). Merited Master of Sciences of the RSFSR (1969) and BASSR (1957). Awarded with the Order of the October Revolution (1971), Order of the Red Banner of Labour (1949), Order of Peoples’ Friendship (1979), Order of the Red Star (1944), Order of the Badge of Honour (1966). Participant in the Great Patriotic War. After graduating from the Moscow Agricultural Academy named after K.A.Timiryazev (1933), he worked at the Bashkir RI of Socialist Reconstruction of Agriculture, since 1935 – at the Bashkir RI of Crop and Livestock Farming, since 1938 – at the Bashkir Scientific Research Agronomic Station. Since 1952 at the Institute of Biology: between 1961–80 Dir., simultaneously, between 1957–60 Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the Bashkir branch of the AS USSR, between 1975–79 Chairman of the Supreme Council of the BASSR. G. studied the water regimen and nutrition of agricultural crops, the biochemical composition and physiological peculiarities of grain crops and sugar beets, substantiated the effectiveness of the utilization of the local method of application of mineral fertilizers in all agricultural zones of the Republic. Deputy of the 7th Session of the Supreme Council of the USSR and the 9th Session of the Supreme Council of the BASSR. The Academy of Sciences of the RB established an award named after him (1998).
