YERMEKEYEVSKY RAION, located in the W of the RB. Established on January 31st, 1935 due to the disamalgamation of Belebeyevsky, Bizhbulyaksky and Tuymazinsky raions of the BASSR. Abolished on February 1st, 1963, the territory joined Belebeyevsky Raion. Newly established on December 13th, 1968. Territory 1,436 km2. Adm. centre Selo Yermekeyevo, which is located 219 km SW from Ufa and 31 km NW from the Priyutovo Railway Station. Population — 15.8 thous. (2017).

In 2018, the area of agricultural lands amounted to 119 thous. ha (83% of the total area), including arable lands 61.9, hayfields 15.4, pastures 35.8; forest area 17.8 and surface waters 0.4. Agricultural enterprises [14 APCs, 21 OOOs, 40 peasant (farmer) farms] specialize in the cultivation of grain and high margin crops, mustard, chickpea, flax, sugar beet, sunflower, meat and dairy cattle breeding. Pig breeding and bee-keeping are welldeveloped. There is a forestry enterprise on the territory. Oil field development is performed by OOO Bashneft–Dobycha of OAO ANK Bashneft. Also, there are: OOO Selenergo, Selkhoztekhnika, a bakery, etc. Kuibyshev Railway (Abdulino—Ufa Section) and highways: Belebey—Yermekeyevo— Priyutovo and Oktyabrsky—Yermekeyevo cross the territory.

There are: a branch of Belebeyevsky Mechanization and Electrification College, 23 general education schools, including 8 secondary, 9 middle and 6 elementary schools; 4 pre school educational institutions; children’s arts house, youth’ sports school; a central hospital, 5 outpatient hospitals, 28 medical and obstetrical centers, the Rucheyok Children’s Health Camp; Sports and Fitness Centre with a swimming pool, a Palace of Culture, 26 clubs, 24 libraries and a local history museum. There are: 5 folk amateur art groups and the Rucheyok Children’s Exemplary Theatre Group.
