LIVESTOCK BREEDING

LIVESTOCK BREEDING, a branch of agriculture concerned with the breeding of farm livestock to produce animal products. It provides the population with food (milk, meat, eggs, etc), raw materials (leather, wool, etc), draft animals (oxen, horses, etc), and organic fertilizers. From L.b. products and waste, feed (tankage, skim milk, etc) and medicines (hormonal drugs, therapeutic sera, etc) are manufactured. L.b. includes fur farming, goat breeding, horse breeding, sheep breeding, pig breeding, cattle breeding, poultry farming, bee-keeping, fish farming, etc. Animal science is the theory underlying the sector. L.b. is closely related to plant growing.

Bashkortostan is a leading region of the RF in L.b. output. Based on the 2017 results, RB ranked 1st for livestock (1038 thous. heads), beef (196 thous. t), kumys (3.2 thous. t), and commercial honey (5.4 thous. t) production; 2nd for milk (1718 thous. t) and protected vegetables (94.2 thous. t) production; 3rd for the number of horses (121 thous. heads) and 5th for the production of potatoes (978 thous. t). The priority direction of the sector progress is dairy breeding, increase of commercial milk output, enhanced production of beef, poultry, pork, and consumable eggs.

Major investment projects, which are aimed at increased poultry and pork production, are implemented in the Republic. Investors also support farmers and development of peasant (farmer) farms, etc. Breeding work companies operate in the market.
