KAZAKOV, Valery Petrovich (11.7. 1934, Selo Vladimiro‑Aleksandrovskoye of the Far Eastern Region — 6.8.2010, Ufa), Physical Chemist. Associate Member of the RAS (1991), D.Sci. (Chemical Sciences) (1983), Full Professor (1986). Merited Scientist of the BASSR (1984). Awarded with the 2nd Class Order for Merits to the Fatherland (2002). Graduated from the Leningrad State University (1957). Since 1970 he worked in the IOC, simultaneously, between 1987—93 Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the USC RAS. The scientific work is dedicated to the chemistry of complex compounds of gold, platinum, radioluminescence of heavy metal solutions. K. created the first water scintillator for transuranium elements registration; discovered chemiluminescence of the reactions of xenon with uranium, which became the basis for determination of ultra‑small quantities of uranium at industrial facilities and for pollution rate test. In collaboration with Kurchatov Institute of Nuclear Energy of RAS (Moscow) he developed an antineutrino detector for remote diagnostics of the nuclear fuel disintegration rate in a nuclear reactor.
