ZLOBIN, Stepan Pavlovich
ZLOBIN, Stepan Pavlovich (11.11.1903 in Moscow — 15.9.1965, ibid.), Writer. Between 1924–27, Z. was exiled in Ufa, where he taught at secondary schools and worked as a statistician in the State Planning Committee of the BASSR. Between 1946— 47, Z. returned to Ufa. He wrote: Buyan Island (1948), Stepan Razin (1951), Missed In Action (1962), On the Steep Path (1967), Along Bashkiria (1928), etc. In 1929, he published a short novel titled Salavat Yulayev which had three other revised editions later on, i.e. in 1941, 1953 and 1962. The study of the Bashkir history, language, folklore, ethnography, communication with the Bashkirs allowed the writer to catch the spirit of the epoch, which he depicted, to convey the national piculiarities and to show the essence of the Peasant War of 1773—75. This book by Z. formed the basis of the namesake feature film shot in 1941 by Ya.A.Protazanov, director; SoyuzDetfilm Studio). Z. translated 8 poems by Salavat Yulayev into the Russian language. Laureate of Stalin Award (1952).
