GOLD IS GATHERED IN CRUMBS
GOLD IS GATHERED IN CRUMBS (Bortoklep yyyla Altyn), a novel. Written in 1966 by Y.K.Khammatov. The work is included in a pentalogy, consisting of the novels Akmantokman (1971), The Stormy Summer (1975), Yurgashty (1980) and The Ore (1982), which tells about the history of gold mining and the development of this industry in Bashkortostan. The novel describes the hard life of pre revolutionary Bashkir village and the life of the Ural prospectors and workers on the eve of the turbulent historical events in the beginning of the 20th century. The evolution of the characters such as Khismatulla, Zagir, Kulsubay and others is shown through complex and contradictory events of the time. The representatives of various social strata (Mikhaik, Nigmatulla, Nakyshev, Kasyanov, etc.) carry on their lives in their own unique ways and evaluate the emerging circumstances based on own understanding, as well. The work represents a new stage in the development of the Bashkir prose and depicts the evolution of personality and characters of the people.
For his series of novels, the author was awarded the Salavat Yulayev State Prize (1994). Based on the first three novels, a four episode film series was made in 1979, (directed by A.G.Abdrazakov) and released by the BASSR State Committee on TV and Broadcasting.
