KARAKUZYAK-BIY MESHAVALI

KARAKUZYAK-BIY MESHAVALI, Leader of the Bashkir Kypsak tribe. He headed the struggle of the Kypsaks against the Nogay Horde. According to a Shezhere and other historical sources, together with Bikbau-biy, Iske-biy, Shagali Shakman-biy he held the negotiations for the accession of the south‑eastern Bashkirs to Russia (ref. Accession of Bashkortostan to Russia). After the agreement was signed, he received a Zhalovannaya Gramota, confirming his Russian citizenship. He was awarded the title of Tarkhan.
