KARANAY MURATOV

KARANAY MURATOV, Participant of the Peasant War of 1773—75, Chief Colonel of the Pugachyov’s Rebellion. Participated in the 1755—56 Bashkir Uprising (ref. Bashkir Uprisings of the 17—18th centuries). He lived in Derevnya Karanayevo of Mirkit‑Minsk Volost of Nogay Doroga (Sterlibashevsky Raion of the RB). In 1773, together with Kanbulat Yuldashev and Kaskyn Samarov headed the Bashkir Detachment (4 thous. people), participated in the capture of Sterlitamak Pier, Tabyn Fortress and the siege of Ufa. In December, founded the Menzelinsky Rebel Centre and headed the Bashkortostan Prikamye and NW Peoples’ Movement. Together with Yermukhammet Kadyrmetev occupied Derevnya Sarapul of Kazan Guberniya. In 1774, troops of K.M. besieged Selo Elabuga of Kazan Gub. and Menzelinsk, operated near Kazan, participated in battles against government forces under the command of F.Yu.Freiman. In October, near Zilair Fortress, he pled guilty to I.L.Timashev. In 1788, he served as Starshina of the Burzyanskaya Volost. A streets in Sterlitamak and other settlements of the RB are named after K.M.
