CLOVER
CLOVER, a plant genus of the Fabaceae family. There are about 300 species known. There are 11 species growing in the RB: field C. (red), hybrid C. (pink, swedish), crawling C. (white), etc. Grows on edges of forests, meadows, in the shrub thickets, etc. In the Republic, the meadow C. is being grown primarily in S.‑E. and S. forest‑steppe zones. Perennial herbaceous plant. There are late‑ripening, or single‑cut (winter type), and early‑ripening or doublecut (spring type) types. Late‑ripening C. is primarily cultivated for green fodder, hay, etc. Yield (Cwt/ha): herbage — 265, hay — 60, seeds — 1.8. C. is a decorative, fodder and nectariferous plant; it is used in traditional medicine. Birsky local, Ufimsky 1 and other C. varieties bred by the selection breeders of the Republic are allowed for use the RB.
