FODDER CROPS
FODDER CROPS, the plants grown for feeding the animals. F.c. include annual and perennial fodder herbs, forage roots and tubers, fodder melons, silage crops. In the RB, out of annual cereals mohar, Sudan grass, etc. are being cultivated; out of annual legumes — sand vetch, spring vetch, chickling vetch, etc; out of perennial cereals — cockfoot, wheat grass, brome, awnless brome, common foxtail, meadow fescue, etc; out of perennial legume grasses — meadow clover, eastern goat’s rue, lucerne, ground honeysuckle, esparcet, etc; out of fodder root crops — fodder and sugar beet, turnip, carrot, etc.; out of fodder tuber crops — potatoes, topinambour, etc; out of fodder gourds‑marrows, pumpkins, etc.; out of silage crops — corn, sunflower, sorghum, etc. In order to produce fodder grain, grain crops (oats, barley, etc) and legumes (vetch, pea, garavance, soy, etc) are being grown. Grain crops (oats, rye, barley), millet and legumes (peas, soy) are also grown for green fodder. In the Republic, the F.c. are grown in all agricultural zones. The sown area of the F.c. in the republic amount to more than 330 thous. ha (2017).
