KRUPSKAYA, Nadezhda Konstantinov­na (14.2.1869, St. Petersburg — 27.2.1939, Moscow), Stateswoman, Teacher. Merited Member of the AS USSR (1931), Dr. of Pedagogical Sciences (1936). Awarded with the Order of Lenin (1935), Order of the Red Banner of Labour. Graduated from the Knyaginya (Princess) A.A.Obolenskaya’ Female Gymnasium (1887), studied at St. Petersburg Higher Female Courses (1889—90) (both — in St. Petersburg). In 1895, K. participated in the organization and activity of the St. Petersburg Union for the Working Class Liberation Movement. In 1896 was arrested, in 1898 was sentenced to exile to Ufa Gub., which she partially served together with V.I.Lenin in Selo Shushenskoye of Yeniseysk Guberniya. In Ufa, between 1900—01, she taught classes at Social and Democratic Club of railway workshops, headed headquarters of The Iskra (Spark) newspaper, and together with A.D.Tsyurupa was the Leader of Ufa Social and Democratic Organization. A street in Ufa is named after K.
