KUVYKIN, Stepan Ivanovich (25.10.1903, Selo Alay of Saratov Gub. — 16.9.1974, Moscow), Oil Engineer, Industrialist and Statesman. Hero of Socialist Labour (1948). Candidate of Engineering Science (1957). Merited Master of Sciences and Technology of the BASSR (1957). Laureate of the Stalin Award (1946, 1950). Awarded with the Order of Lenin (1942, 1948, 1953, 1965), Order of the Red Banner of Labour (1944, 1945, 1957), Order of the Badge of Honour (1973). Graduated from the Moscow Gubkin Oil Institute (1947). Since 1942 Head of the Bashneft Association, since 1957 — of the Administration of the Oil Production Industry, since 1958 Chairman of Bashkir Council of National Economy. Since 1963 1st Deputy Chairman of the Council of National Economy of the RSFSR, between 1965—70 Deputy Minister of Oil Industry of the USSR. With the participation of K., large deposits of Devonian Oil were discovered, the oil production industry of the Republic continued to develop. He was one of the developers of Ufimets Drilling Rig. Deputy of the 3—6th Sessions of the Supreme Council of the USSR and the 2nd Session of the Supreme Council of the RSFSR. An oil college and a street in Oktyabrsky, and a street in Ufa are named after K.
