KUZEYEV, Rail Gumerovich [10.1.1929, Derevnya Aminevo of the Ufimsky Canton of the BASSR (Chishminsky Raion of the RB) — 2.8.2005, Ufa], Ethnologist, Historian. Associate Member of the RAS (1991), Academic of the AS RB (1991). Dr. Sci (History, 1971), Full Professor (1972). Merited Master of Sciences of the RSFSR (1979) and the BASSR (1969). Laureate of the State Award of the RB in the field of science and technology (1999). Awarded with the Order of the Red Banner of Labour (1971), the Order of Peoples’ Friendship (1975), and the Badge of Honour (2000). A brother of Rust. G.Kuzeyev. Between 1950—51 and between 1954—83, he worked at the Institute of History, Language and Literature. Between 1983— 99 — Head of the Department of the Peoples of the Urals at the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography of the Ufa Scientific Centre of the RAS; simultaneously between 1995— 96 — acting Vice‑President of the AS RB, 1999—2001 — Director of the Centre of Ethnological Research. His scientific studies were devoted to the theory of ethnos, to the formation of ethnic composition of the peoples of the Volga Region and of the South Urals, to the problems of ethnogenesis of Bashkirs (ref. The Origin of the Bashkir people), etc. Organizer, Leader and Participant of a number of archaeographic and ethnographic expeditions. Since 1973 — Chairman of the South Ural Branch of the Archaeographic Commission, between 1995—97 — President of the Association of Russian Ethnographers and Anthropologists.
