CULTURAL AND LEISURE INSTITUTIONS, provide leisure to the population and create conditions for amateur art grops. In Bashkortostan, cultural and leisure activities are developed by an extensive network of institutions, including city and district palaces of culture and rural clubs. There are libraries, technical skills and art, folk theatres, orchestras, amateur choirs, various ensembles, including dance ensembles, vocal and mus. instrumental groups, folklore ensembles, etc. The first cultural and educational institutions in Bashkortostan called “izba chitalnya” appeared in the late 19th century. After the Revolution of 1917, culture and leisure institutions were created by the trade unions’ committees as well as collective and state farms. In 1933, the Udarnik club was the first to open in Ufa. In 1936, the Komarov Palace of Children’s Art. Between the 1950s—60s, the culture and leisure institutions network actively developed: houses and palaces of culture were built in district centres and cities, while clubs were built in villages. During this period the following culture and leisure objects appeared: Gagarin House of Culture, Science and Technology, Ordzhonikidze Palace of Culture, 40th Anniversary of October Palace of Culture. Between the 1970s— 80s: OAO UZEMIK Palace of Culture and Technology, House of Art for Disabled People, Khimik Palace of Culture, etc. In the early 1980s, mobile club institutions (auto clubs) appeared to provide services to settlements remote from the district centre. The establishment of social and cultural centres (mainly, in the rural centres), folk art centres, and national cultural centres (in cities) started in the RB at the beginning of the 21st century.
