KUYURGAZINSKY RAION
KUYURGAZINSKY RAION, located in the S of the RB. Established on January 31, 1935 due to the disamalgamation of Meleuzovsky and Mrakovsky raions of the BASSR. Abolished on February 1, 1963, territory became part of Meleuzovsky Raion. Newly established on January 13, 1965 as Kumertausky Raion. Since December 17, 1992 has the current name. Territory — 2,235 km2. Adm. centre — Selo Yermolaevo, which is located 247 km S of Ufa. Population — 23.0 thous. people (2017).
In 2018, the area of agricultural lands amounted to 191.9 thous. ha (85.9% of the total area), including arable lands — 108.2, hayfields — 17.5, pastures — 70.7; forest area — 18.4 and surface waters — 0.9. Agricultural enterprises [5 APCs, 9 OOOs, 127 peasant (farmer) farms] specialize in the cultivation of grain crops, sunflower, sugar beet, dairy and meat cattle breeding. Horse breeding and bee-keeping are well‑developed. On the territory of the raion, there are: OAO Yermolayevsky Khleb (Bread) and OOO Remontnik (Repairer). Also, there are: Kanchurinskoye Administration of Underground Gas Storage — a branch of OOO Gazprom Underground Gas Storage, OOO Mashkhimtrade, Kuyurgazinsky Plant of Oilfield Equipment,
Kuyurgazamoloko, etc. The Kuibyshev (Dyoma—Tyulgan section) and South‑Ural (Muraptalovo—Sakmarskaya) railways; and Ufa—Orenburg, and Magnitogorsk—Ira highways cross the territory.
There are: 17 general education schools, a group of social rehabilitation of the Semya (Family) Inter‑Raion Centre, 24 pre‑school educational institutions, a House of Pioneers and Schoolchildren, a centre of pedagogical information, a youth’s sports school; a central hospital and 2 local hospitals, 3 outpatient clinics, 43 medical and obstetrical centers, a boarding house for elderly and disabled people (Selo Svoboda), an orphanage for children and teenagers (Yermolayevo), the Sokol Sports and Fitness Centre; 42 clubs, 21 libraries; Gaziz Almukhametov, Kinzi Arslanov, B.Bikbay (Derevnya Novokaltayevo), A.S.Pushkin (Derevnya Shabagish) museums, and the Kuyurgazinsky Museum. In the raion, there are 19 folk and exemplary amateur art groups.
