FORESTRY
FORESTRY, a branch of plant growing, forest cultivation for production of lumber and other forest products, as well as for using forest’s protective, water regulating, health improving, aesthetic and other economic and social properties. F. forms the basis of forest management. There are 20 forestforming species. Birch, black alder occupy 27.5% of the area, linden – 21.7, pine – 15.2, aspen – 14.8, spruce, fir – 6.1%, oak – 5.1, gray alder – 3.8, maple, ash – 3.1, larch, ilm – 0.9 each, poplar – 0.5 (2018). Among the valuable are forest stands with a predominance of coniferous (pine, spruce, fir, larch, cedar) and hardwoods (oak, maple, ash), growing on the area of 1.58 million ha (30.4%; 2018).
