BASHKIR PEOPLE’S LITERARY HERITAGE OF THE 18—19th CENTURIES, a monograph by A.I. Kharisov. Published in the Bashk. language in 1965 (revised edition, 2014) and translated into Russian in 1973 (revised edition in 2007). The author for the first time explores the genre system of the 18—19th centuries both in written poetry and oral tradition; analyzes both handwritten and printed books of the period before the Revolution of 1917 and describes a scope of their ideological and thematic values. The monograph analyzes the lit. works of Akmulla, Sh.Zaki, Salavat Yulayev, Kh.Salikhov, M.I.Umetbayev et al. The book also traces the evolution of the pre-revolutionary Bashk. lit. and determines its links with the Bashk. folklore and the Oriental classic literature.
