LYALYATYULPAN is the name of the Ufa Grand Mosque. Building commenced in 1989, with its construction completed in 1998. The Mosque has been operating since 1999. It is under the authority of the Central Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Russia and was erected on its initiative. Architect – V.V.Davlyatshin. This mosque (50x50x21 m) is built of stone and is a 3‑storey building. Its shape takes its inspiration from the image of a blooming tulip. Two eight‑sided minarets (in the form of tulip buds, 54 m high) are located on either side of the mosque’s main entrance staircase, which is located on the 3rd floor level. On the 3rd floor is the entrance hall and prayer hall with a balcony for women. The prayer hall is decorated in the oriental style: the floral ornament on the walls and stained glass windows symbolize the flowers of the trees of Paradise. Guest rooms, classrooms, living quarters for students and a hall, where various ceremonies and meetings take place, are situated on the mosque’s 1st and 2nd (terraced) floors. Under the mosque’s authority, there are a madrassa and Sunday schools for adults and children. In 1999–2005, the Russian Islamic University was located here. This mosque is the Muslim religious centre of Ufa.
