MAZHITOV, Niyaz Abdulkhakovich [20.8.1933, Derevnya Tugay of Krasnousolsky Raion of the BASSR (Gafuriysky Raion of the RB) – 10.11.2015, Ufa], Archaeologist. Acad. of the AS RB (2006), Dr. of Historical Sciences (1989), Full Professor (1990). Merited Scientist of the RB (1993). Awarded with the Order of Salavat Yulayev (2013). After graduating from the Perm University (1956), he worked at the Institute of History, Language and Literature, since 1978 – at the BSU, simultaneously, between 1995–2002 Representative of the Executive Committee of the Interregional Bashkirs Kurultay [ref. World Bashkir Kurultay (Congress)], since 2006 VicePresident and Academic Secretary of Branch of Social and Humanitarian Sciences of the AS RB, between 2011–14 Deputy Dir. of the Ancient Ufa Republican Historical Cultural Museum Nature Reserve. His scientific work was devoted to the study of archaeological cultures and monuments during the Iron Age and the Middle Ages, issues related to the Bashkir ethnogenesis. He researched the Bakhmutinskaya, Kushnarenkovskaya, Turbaslinskaya cultures and revealed the continuity of the Bashkir lineage from the ancient and medieval population of the region.
