MEDALLIC ART, the manufacture of coins and medals. The appearance of the M.a. in Bashkortostan dates back to the end of the 1970s and is connected with the creative work of N.A.Kalinushkin (Nester- ov), Kh.M.Khabibrakhmanov (Childhood; both – in aluminum, 1982), V.G.Lobanov (badge Soldier’s Trench Coats, gypsum, 1980) and V.P.Antipin (badge Football, wood, 1988). Later, the M.a. mainly developed in the creative work of Kalinushkin, who worked in the classical forms of medals and badges within the traditional memorial theme. His medals represent a portrait relief, the composition also includes an inscription with a name, sometimes a landscape (Andersen, 1980; Dante, 1992; both — in bronze); in rare cases, in violation of the classical principles of compositional and plastic design, he expanded the formal and figurative possibilities of a medal (Anna Akhmatova, aluminum, 1982; Bach, 1981; Boris Domashnikov, 1985; both – in bronze).

The process of releasing a medal from the role of an official monument and award is reflected in the works of I.M.Valeyev, who worked in M.a. in late 80s — early 90s. Besides the memorial theme, he also addressed the themes of ecology and civilization, the destinies of small people in a big city, the beauty and harmony in human life, the greatness of ancient architecture and natural landscapes. His works are characterized by a pure shape of a circle or a square, sometimes with a solid graphic relief, without traditional flat background with an inscription (Mountains, Nude, both – in 1986; City, 1988; all – in bronze). F.S.Nuriakhmetov (Pirosmani, lead; Nariman Sabitov; both – 1986; Jalil Kiyekbayev, 1988; both – in tin), M.R.Khalilov (Stepan Zlobin, 1984, bronze), etc addressed M.a. R.A.Khasanov made medals Vrubel (1997) and Leonardo (1998; both – in bronze) that feature classical representative relief portraits on the obverse and reproductive images of their works on the reverse.
