OCCUPATIONAL MEDICINE AND HUMAN ECOLOGY INSTITUTE, a research institute in Ufa, a federal state‑financed scientific institution. Established in 1955. Main activities: research work in top‑priority fields of occupational health science, improvement of ambient and industrial environment monitoring methods and systems with regard to controlled and newly identified chemical, physical and biological factors, assessment of risks to the health of employees, etc. The scientists of the Institute were the first in the country to provide the scientifically justified physiological and hygienic characteristics of labour conditions at the facilities of chemical, petrochemical and other industries. They have set the maximum permissible limits of petroleum processing and petrochemical products content in the soil; developed prevention and rehabilitation methods based on examples obtained from large petrochemical facilities; provided sanitary justifications for large water control constructions; assessed the impact of the industrial contamination of a habitat on the health of the rural community. More than 80 invention patents have been obtained.
