MELEUZOVSKY RAION
MELEUZOVSKY RAION, located in the S of the RB. Established on August 20, 1930. Between 1930–32, part of the territory was incorporated in Torsky Raion; between 1937—56 — in Voskresensky Raion. Territory — 3,232 km2. Adm. centre — Meleuz, which is located 223 km S of Ufa. Population — 83.2 thous. people (2017).
In 2018, the area of agricultural lands amounted to 176.4 thous. ha (55.1% of the total area), including arable lands — 108.2 thous. ha, hayfields — 21.8 thous. ha, pastures — 45.5 thous. ha; forest area — 116.5 thous. ha and surface waters — 5.3. Agricultural enterprises [4 APCs, 6 OOOs, 76 peasant (farmer) farms] specialize in the cultivation of grain crops, forage crops, sugar beets, sunflower, meat and dairy cattle breeding. Poultry farming is well‑developed. There are: logging, kumys production enterprises, AO Meleuzovskiye Mineral Fertilizers, AO Meleuzovsky Plant of Reinforced Concrete Structures, ZAO Meleuzovsky Dairy and Canning Plant, AO Meleuzovsky Sugar Plant, OOO Grand, Pivzavod (Brewery), etc. The Kuibyshev Railway (Dyoma–Tulgan section) and the following highways: Ufa–Orenburg, Ishimbay–Voskresenskoye–Meleuz and Meleuz– Fyodorovka cross the territory.
There are: 39 general education schools, 24 pre‑school educational institutions, 6 supplementary schools, 2 children’s arts schools, 2 youth’ sports school; 4 medical outpatient clinics, 48 medical and obstetrical centers; 47 clubs, 30 libraries, the D.M.Bulyakov Museum (Derevnya Smakovo), Reconnaissance Museum, Local History Museum (Zirgan), Voskresenskaya Art Gallery; a physical training and health centre (Zirgan).
There are: 5 exemplary and 11 folk amateur art groups; 1 Merited Folk Ensemble of the RB.
