MECHETLINSKY RAION
MECHETLINSKY RAION, located in the NE of the RB. Established on August 30, 1930, as Duvan‑Mechetlinsky Raion. Since February 20, 1932 has its current name. Abolished on February 1, 1963, territory became part of Belokataysky Raion. Newly established on January 13, 1965. Territory – 1,557 km2. Adm. centre — Selo Bolsheustikinskoye, which is located 283 km NE of Ufa and 126 km NW of the Suleya Railway Station (Chelyabinsk Obl.). Population — 22.7 thous. people (2017).
In 2018, the area of agricultural lands amounted to 107.7 thous. ha (69.2% of the total area), including arable lands — 53.7, hayfields — 21.7, pastures — 32.0; forest area — 38.0 and surface wa ters — 1.0. Agricultural enterprises [1 APC, 9 OOOs, 90 peasant (farmer) farms] specialize in the cultivation of grain crops, forage crops, and dairy and meat cattle breeding. Pig breeding and beekeeping are well‑developed. There are: a brick plant (Selo Maloustikinskoye), building materials and furniture enterprises, etc. Highways: Kropachyovo (Chelyabinsk Obl.)—Mesyagutovo—Achit (Sverdlovsk Obl.), Bolsheustikinskoye— Novobelokatay and Bolsheustikinskoye— Yunus—Yusup.
There are: a branch of Duvansky Multidisciplinary College (Bolsheustikinskoye), 24 general education schools, 25 pre‑school educational institutions, a children’s arts school, House of Pioneers and Schoolchildren, a youth’ sports school; a central hospital and 3 rural outpatient clinics, 26 medical and obstetrical centers, Mechetlinsky Health Resort for children with parents and Karagay Health Resort; 37 clubs, 29 libraries, a local history museum and the Kubyz Museum. In the raion, there are 17 folk amateur art groups. Also, there is the Ural TV studio.
