MURTAZIN, Rauf Akhmetovich [15.1.1910, Derevnya Temyasovo of Orsky Uyezd of Orenburg Gub. (Baymaksky Raion of the RB) — 10.4.1994, Ufa], Composer. Merited Artist of BASSR (1957). Laureate of BASSR State Award named after Salavat Yulayev (1990). Awarded with the Order of the Badge of Honour (1955, 1971). Participant in the Great Patriotic War. Between 1927—30, he studied at the Bashkir Technical School of Arts. Graduated from the Bashkortostan Studio at Moscow Conservatory (1947). Since 1926, he was engaged in musical theatrical activities in the raions of the Republic; since 1947, he worked at the Ministry of Culture of BASSR, between 1951—57 — at Bashkir Music School. M.’s music is distinguished by bright national colour, by the combination of folk intonations and classical means of musical expressiveness. The author of Azat and Storm operas, 7 symphonies, Overture, Festive symphonietta, concerts for violin and trumpet with an orchestra. The lyrical gift of M. is revealed in Trio for violin, cello and pianoforte, Suite for cello and pianoforte, Quintete and Trio for pianoforte, orchestral and instrumental plays, choral works. He is the author of over 150 songs and romances with lyrics by Bashkir and Russian poets, over 250 adaptations of Bashkir folk songs.
