NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE RB. Located in Ufa. Founded in 1864. There are more than 135 thous. exposition units in the museum. Archaeological collection includes findings from the Bakhmutinsky burial ground, Novoturbaslinsky burial mounds, etc; ethnographic – Bashkir traditional adornments, Bashkir costume and other peoples of Bashkortostan, implements, etc; natural history — the Krasny Klyuch meteorite, Ural jasper, mammal bones, etc. A significant part of the collection consists of rare books, photos and documents, including those which had once belonged to G.V.Vakhrushev and M.I.Umetbayev. The collection of paintings includes works by D.D.Burlyuk, K.S.Devletkildeyev, R.M.Nurmukhametov and other Bashkir artists. The basic part of the numismatic collection consists of silver and copper coins of Russia of the 16–20th centuries. The Trinity Church chronicles and the sabre, which, according to a legend, used to belong to Salavat Yulayev, are considered to be the most valuable artifacts. The museum building is a monument of history, architecture and urban development of the early 20th century (ref. Peasant Land Bank).
