NIGMATI (Nigmatullin), Rashit Nigmatullinovich [27.1.1909, Derevnya Dengizbaevo of Nikolayevsky Uyezd of Samara Gub. (now Bolshechernigovsky Raion of Samara Obl.) – 13.10.1959, Ufa, buried in the Garden named after N.Krupskaya (now the Garden named after S.Yulaev)]. People’s Poet of the BASSR (1959). Awarded with the Order of the Red Banner of Labour (1944), Order of the Badge of Honour (1949, 1955). Member of the Union of Writers of the BASSR. Between 1916–18, studied in the madrassa of his native village. Between 1931–33 and 1936–37, worked in the Put Lenina newspaper. Since 1937 – Literary Adviser, since 1943 – Executive Secretary of the Board of the Union of Writers of the BASSR, since 1946 – worked in the Oktyabr magazine. Between 1948–49, worked at the Bashgosizdat publishing house (all – in Ufa). Author of the following collections of poetry: Girl From Sakmara (1952), Welcome Address (1955), The Flame out of the Spark (1962), etc; books for children: Answers to My Daughter’s Questions (1944), Happy Journey (1951), etc; narrative poems: The Agidel’s Beautiful Valleys (1939), etc. N. wrote the following works of drama: Forest Noise, On the Shore of the Belaya River, etc.
