NIGMATULIN, Robert Iskandrovich (b.17.6.1940 in Moscow), Mechanical Engineer, Mathematician. Acad. of RAS (1991) and AS RB (1997), Dr.Sci. (Phys.‑Math.) (1971), Full Professor (1974). Laureate of the USSR State Award (1983), Award of the RF Government (2012) in the field of Science and Engineering, Award of the Leninist Komsomol (1973). Awarded with the Order of the Badge of Honour (2000), the 4nd Class Order for Merits to the Fatherland (2011). Graduated from the N.E.Bauman Moscow Higher Technical School (1963), the MSU (1965). Between 1993–2006 Chairman of the Presidium of the USC RAS, between 1995–2004 President of the AS RB. His research work is dedicated to issues of thermal physics, acoustics, chemical physics, nuclear, combustion and explosion physics. The founder of a scientific school in the field of multi‑phase media mechanics. Models and calculation methods created by N. are used in new equipment designing, analysis of emergency situations in nuclear power plants, pipeline transport and other devices with two‑phase flow of flammable and non‑flammable systems. Deputy of the 3rd Duma of the RF and the 1–2nd State Assembly—the Qurultay of the RB.
