WORLD WAR I of 1914—18, the war between England, Russia and France, on the one hand, and Austria-Hungary and Germany, on the other hand. 38 states participated in the WWI. Approx. 163 thous. people were mobilized from Orenburg Gub., more than 320 thous. people were mobilized from Ufa Guberniya. The Russian army included 330th Zlatoustovsk, 196th Insarsky and 190th Ochakov Infantry regiments. The Orenburg Cossack troops sent 18.5 cavalry regiments and 9 equestrian artillery battalions (33 thous. people in total) to the war. On October, 14th and November, 11th, 1914 the Orenburg Mufti, M.Sultanov, addressed the Muslim clergy with an appeal to defend Russia. The 103rd, 127th, 128th, 144th and 152nd reserve infantry battalions (in March, 1916, reformed into reserve infantry regiments), 694th Orenburg, 696th Ufa militias were formed in Ufa Guberniya. Due to the First World War, military production increased at the Zlatoustovsk (Kosotursk), Kusinsky, and Satkinsky plants, and I.I.Gutman’s Iron and Copper Casting and Mechanical plant. Bombs and grenades were produced at the shell factories under the Ufa and Sterlitamak Military and Industrial Committees. Alafuzovskaya Factory produced military outfit. Private workshops produced overcoat cloth, boots, shell boxes, etc. More than 25 thous. horses were purchased in Ufa Gub. for the needs of the army. In 1914, 18,210 rubles of voluntary contributions were collected. 14,974 rubles were donated to the Ufa Committee of the All-Russia Cities’ Union, including 14,816 rubles, which were allocated for the establishment of infirmaries. In Ufa, by 1917 there were 126th and 127th evacuation hospitals, infirmaries of the Zemstvo Union, in Zlatoust — an infirmary for 80 beds, in total in Ufa Gub. there were more than 2 thous. beds available for patients. WWI had a significant impact on the social, political and economic life of Bashkortostan. There is a monument to the participants of WWI in Ufimsky Raion of the RB.
