FIRST GRAND MOSQUE

FIRST GRAND MOSQUE is situated in Ufa. It was built in 1830 at the request of G.Gabdrakhimov, the Mufti of Orenburg Muslim Spiritual Assembly. Architectural Engineer – I.Myalov. It is administered by the Presidium of the Central Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Russia. This mosque (33.3х22.9х9.7 m) is a two-storey building with a sloping roof and a gently sloping dome decorated with an ornamental top. The walls are made of brick. The minaret is 27.9 m high. It is made of brick and it has two storeys. The surface of the minaret is horizontally and vertically divided into several parts by columns, arches and protrusions. The facade of the mosque’s 2nd floor is distinguished by tall semi-circular windows, decorated with embossed brick ornament, which, in its turn, divides the wall surface vertically into 2 parts. On the 1st floor there are 2 prayer halls for women, a library, classrooms, office facilities, etc, while on the 2nd floor there are small and large prayer halls for men. In the large hall there are mihrab (prayer niches) and minbar (pulpit), the dome part is divided into 3 naves, the south wall is decorated with round marble inlays and gilded Arabic writing. Since the 1990s, there are courses in the basics of Islam and Arabic for children and adults. On the territory of the First Mosque there is a necropolis with the graves of G.Z.Rasulev, M.Sultanov and S.Sh.Tevkelev. The building of the First Mosque is an object of cultural heritage.
