PODICIPEDIFORMES

PODICIPEDIFORMES, an order of birds. There is 1 known family with about 20 species. There are 4 species in the RB. Migratory birds are of average sizes (body length range of 28–50 cm, and body mass range of 200–1500 g), the males are bigger. They feed on aqueous invertebrates, some P. eat small fish. They inhabit lakes, ponds, former river beds, etc. They are mostly spread in the Bashkir piedmont of the Urals and the Bashkir Trans-Urals.
