POLAK, Alexey Filippovich (4.6.1911, Tiflis — 31.7.1990, Ufa), Civil Engineer. Dr. of Engineering Science (1965), Full Professor (1968). Merited Master of Sciences and Technology of the RSFSR (1980) and BASSR (1974). Laureate of the USSR State Award (1984). Awarded with the Order of the Red Banner of Labour (1971), Order of the Badge of Honour (1966). Graduated from the Vienna Polytechnic Institute (1935). Since 1941, participated in the exploration of the Ishimbayskoye Oil Field, since 1943 — worked at Bashneftestroy Trust, Bashneft Association, since 1947 — at SMU-3 of Bashneftezavodstroy Trust. Since 1956 — Dir. of BashNIIstroy. Since 1980 — worked at the UNI. Scientific activities are devoted to the problems of building materials science, corrosion of concrete and reinforced concrete, etc. P. developed the methods of protection of building structures against corrosion in corrosive media.
